Online Integrity

H/T to The Jawa Report

Statement of Principles.

The Online Integrity Statement of Principles is simple:

  • Private persons are entitled to respect for their privacy regardless of their activities online. This includes respect for the non-public nature of their personal contact information, the inviolability of their homes, and the safety of their families. No information which might lead others to invade these spaces should be posted. The separateness of private persons’ professional lives should also be respected as much as is reasonable.
  • Public figures are entitled to respect for the non-public nature of their personal, non-professional contact information, and their privacy with regard to their homes and families. No information which might lead others to invade these spaces should be posted.
  • Persons seeking anonymity or pseudonymity online should have their wishes in this regard respected as much as is reasonable. Exceptions include cases of criminal, misleading, or intentionally disruptive behavior.
  • Violations of these principles should be met with a lack of positive publicity and traffic.
  • Signatories and endorsers appear in the blogroll to the right. Adherence to this statement begins at the moment of endorsement — some of the originators of this statement have not always followed its principles, but we are all committed to doing so now.

This statement is nonpartisan and nonideological. It is open to participants and adherents left, right and center. In an era when online activism and community have more impact, promise and peril than ever, it is essential that we seize upon the best aspects of the internet — its self-policing, democratic nature — and use them to set an example of reasoned restraint and considered civility.

If you wish to be on record as endorsing this statement, please send an e-mail with your name and website.

A long time commentor at The Barking Moonbat Early Warning System has died. He was on his way on his way to visit family and died of a heartattack while at a rest area on the side of the road.  He will be missed.  i know I am usually just a lurker at TBMEWS, but his comments were well taken and very inrformative.  Hopefully everyone who has read his comments or ever knew him will say a little prayer for his family.  He will be grately missed.  So long friend.

13 Charged in Sting Aiming for Molesters

Police say men went to a Laguna house where they expected sex with 12- and 13-year-old girls.
By Sara Lin, Times Staff Writer

Thirteen men, including an off-duty California Highway Patrol lieutenant, have been arrested in an Internet sting operation aimed at luring would-be molesters to a Laguna Beach apartment where they expected to rendezvous with teenage girls.

Some of the men had arrived with candy, flowers, sexual paraphernalia, cameras or alcohol, only to be greeted by police officers during last weekend’s arrests, details of which were announced by authorities Wednesday.

The Skipper at Barking Moonbat Early Warning System has a good post about netiquette.  Her is the link to The Core Rules of Netiquette.    Remember even though you can’t see the other person over the interenet, that does not give yout the right to be rude.  Please every one follow these rules.  It wil make everyone’s lives better and your time on the internet more fun.
