fter a long fight with breast cancer, Rams owner Georgia Frontiere died Friday in Los Angeles.
Mrs. Frontiere, 80, had been hospitalized for 41⁄2 months. Until word
began to leak out in December, family members and team officials kept
her illness a secret, in accordance with Mrs. Frontiere’s wishes.
But in her final days, she told her son, Dale “Chip” Rosenbloom, and
daughter, Lucia Rodriguez, that letting the public know of her illness
might help others, particularly those with breast cancer or those who
have loved ones with breast cancer.
Over the last several months, Mrs. Frontiere developed complications
from pneumonia, which caused lung problems and limited her breathing
ability. But she kept battling the illness, and her spirits never
sagged.
Rosenbloom said she got by with strength of spirit and never got depressed. “She was smiling and fighting all the way,” he said.
“It was unbelievable,” team president John Shaw said.
Shaw recalled a hospital visit in early January.
