This is a story about a distant family member that is helping the locals in the Amazon forest create more wealth for themselves.  Cool story on how people can help others out of poverty and save the environment.

Have to give Obama credit

April 12, 2009 Leave a comment

I know that I am no fan of Obama and his Leftist policies, but I have to give him credit for giving the go-ahead on the rescue of the kidnapped captain.

Obama twice approved force to rescue hostage

WASHINGTON (AP) – President Barack Obama twice authorized the military to rescue a U.S. captain held by Somali pirates and whose life appeared to be at risk.Officials say Obama gave the OK on Friday and Saturday to rescue Capt. Richard Phillips from a lifeboat off the Somali coast. Officials say both times the Pentagon believed Phillips’ life was at risk.

The officials spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal deliberations.—-Breitbart

So much for our reputation in the world

March 18, 2009 Leave a comment

All throughout the campaign Obama was telling us that he would repair our reputation with our allies in the world.  Well, Team Obama has snubbed Prime Minster Brown and gave him the DVD of the month club as a present as Brown gave Obama a serious gift.  Thew worst part of that is that Gordon Brown does not like to watch movies because of his poor vision and hardly watches movies in the first place.   But even before this gigantic gaffe, team Obama snubbed the members of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Belgian Senate.   They were sent an invitation to come to the US Embassy for the Crowning of the One as the next Ruler of America, but later got dis-invited.

What is it with Team Obama wanting to have tea and meetings with our enemies like Iran and asking Russia to help us, but snubs our allies.  I thought that they were going to repair our standing in the world.

Not Welcome at the U.S. Embassy

Three weeks ago, all the members of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Belgian Senate received an invitation of the US Embassy in Brussels to attend the inauguration of Barack Hussein Obama at the Embassy on 20 January. Senators Karim Van Overmeire and Freddy Van Gaever, both belonging to the Vlaams Belang (VB) party, the largest party in Flanders, the Dutch-speaking northern half of Belgium, accepted the invitation.

On the very morning of the inauguration, however, the secretary of the two VB senators received a phone call from the U.S. Embassy. The embassy told her that the invitation of the VB politicians was “a mistake” and requested them “not to come.”

….

“Never in my tours of service have I ever heard of any political party’s representative, especially those members who are part of the foreign policy machinery of the government, being ‘disinvited’ after a formal embassy invitation had been proffered; it flies in the face of diplomatic protocol and good judgment.

“The closest similar incident that I recall happened after the election of Reagan in 1984, and there were questions raised within the embassy about inviting the head of the Fremskrit (‘Progressive’) Party to the inaugural celebration because of his very strong opposition to Third World immigration into Norway. In the end, Karl I. Hagen was invited, for it was considered improper, and a violation of protocol not to do so.

“The decision to ban the members of Vlaams Belang to the inaugural viewing had to have come from Washington. No ambassador – at least no perceptive one – wishes to burn his bridges to the legislative body of the nation to which he is accredited; aside from being stupid, it is counterproductive in fulfilling his objectives.”—Brussels Journal

Nice.  Starting us out on the right foot.   I wonder when he will snub our best ally Australia???

Drunkeness at St. Patty's Day in Ireland

March 18, 2009 Leave a comment

Well, it looks like some Hooligans took over St. Patty’s Day in Dublin and Belfast.

Drunken mayhem mars St. Patrick’s in Ireland

DUBLIN – Cars were torched, firefighters attacked and police bombarded in mayhem spawned by dusk-to-dawn drinking on St. Patrick’s Day, Irish authorities said Wednesday.

Authorities were still assessing the damage from inebriated revelers who turned some districts of Dublin and Belfast into nightmares.

Police in the Republic of Ireland said they were counting the number of public-order arrests from Tuesday’s festivities, and the total would easily exceed 200, typical for recent years.—Yahoo News

Ongoing terror in Mumbai

November 28, 2008 Leave a comment

There is still sporadic gun fire and explosions in Mumbai (Bombay).  This has been a well orchestrated attack and more information is coming out about the attacks.  3 Pakistanis were arrested and shed information on who has done the attack.  Lashkar-e-Tayiba are a terrorist group associated with Al Queda and have helped the Indian Mujahideeen, but carried out this attack themselves.

The terrorists have taken hostages in a Jewish center and at least 5 believed to be killed.  The terrorists also have attacked hospitals and train stations.

Here is a map of the area where the attacks occurred:

You can click here for a bigger map.

But in the face of danger and the chaos many have become heroes and saved many lives.  Staff from the Taj Majal Hotel saved many lives and stayed calm throughout and helped many escape the gunmen.

“The hotel staff has been very, very brave,” Mangeshikar said. “Hats off to them.”

As we go farther and farther from 9/11, we have become lulled into thinking the Islamo-Fascist threat is over. As we can see with the attacks on Mumbai, they are not beaten.  Hopefully this will shed light to all of us that the threat from the Islamo-Fascists is real and that they will stop at nothing until the whole world is Mislim.

What we do as a nation will have an impact on the rest of the world, and I hope that Obama  will have the fortitude and not give in the the Islamo-Fascists.  I know I do not agree with much with Obama, but I do know that he wants to do what is bestfor this country and the world, and with a little Hope, maybe he can be that President. Hopefully he will not follow Clinton’s footsteps and go after the Terrorists Jusdicially and will go after them Militarily. time will tell, but we must help Obama if he makes the right decision and critisize him if he makes the wrong decision.

The Pirates are still at it

November 20, 2008 Leave a comment

The Pirates are still capturing ships.  They have captured 9 ships in 12days.

Somali pirates seize ninth vessel in 12 days

The battle with pirates operating off the coast of Somalia grew yesterday when raiders seized two more ships but lost one of their own in an uneven firefight with the Indian Navy. The International Maritime Bureau (IMB) described the situation yesterday as “out of control”.

The surge in hijackings came as Saudi Arabia confirmed that a ransom demand had been made for the freeing of the Sirius Star supertanker, seized at the weekend with her crew of 25 and a cargo of oil worth $100 million (£65 million).

Two more vessels – a Thai fishing boat with a crew of 16, and a bulk carrier, believed to be Greek, with an unknown number of people aboard – were seized by pirates in the Gulf of Aden yesterday, bringing the total to nine vessels in 12 days.–The Times

The growing Piracy problem in Somalia

November 18, 2008 3 comments

****  Update at bottom

Over the past few years, pirates off the coast of Somalia have been getting bolder and bolder in their attacks.  the latest one was the taking of a Saudi tanker. The Malaccan Straights I still think is the pirate capitol of the world, but the coast of Somalia is coming up fast. Earlier This year, a ship containing who knows what, was captured by the pirates off the coast, and many died of unknown causes.  Russia, India, and the United States all have a naval presence in the area, but the piracy continues.

It is no wonder that the pirates are coming from the part of Somalia controlled by the Islamic Courts Union, an affiliate with Al Queda.  Obama and the next administration are going to have to deal with this.   This is disrupting trade, along with piracy off the coast of India.

Today’s pirates are no  different than the Pirates of the Caribbean or the Asians of the past.  They are in it for themselves and to get the most out of whatever they steal from the ships they take over.   This is going to have to have help from all over the world.  Just as the eradication of the pirates in their hay day.

US Admiral ‘stunned’ by pirates’ reach

The top US military officer said Monday he was “stunned” by the reach of the Somali pirates who seized a Saudi supertanker off the east coast of Africa, calling piracy a growing problem that needs to be addressed.

But Admiral Michael Mullen, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said there were limits to what the world’s navies could do once a ship has been captured because national governments often preferred to pay pirates ransom.

“I’m stunned by the range of it, less so than I am the size,” Mullen said of the seizure of the Sirius Star Sunday by armed men.

The huge, oil laden prize, which is three times the size of a US aircraft carrier, was some 450 miles east of Kenya when it was boarded, he said.

That is the farthest out at sea that a ship has been seized in the latest surge of piracies, according to Mullen.

The pirates, he said, are “very good at what they do. They’re very well armed. Tactically, they are very good.”—BREITBART
