The Goracle goes to Washington

March 21, 2007 Leave a comment

The Goracle of the New Church of Manbearpig is testifying at the EPW committee.  Of course, the Goracle is above everyone else and does not have to summit his testimony 48 hours before the hearing.  No, he has 24 hours.  But wait, he didn’t even give them the 24 hours.  He must have been on the trail of Manbearpig and didn;t have time to send in his tesimony.

Update: At  9:29AM ET Wednesday — after the issue was raised by Fox News Channel — former Vice President Gore’s testimony was received by the Senate Environment & Public Works Committee. Gore’s testimony was given to Committee members just one minute before his scheduled House appearance and mere hours before his scheduled Senate appearance.

Posted By Marc Morano – 8:08 PM ET – Marc_Morano@EPW.Senate.Gov

From behind the scenes on Capitol Hill: Former Vice President Al Gore, despite being given major preferential treatment, has violated the Senate Environment & Public Works Committee’s (EPW) hearing rules.

Gore first demanded to be granted an unprecedented 30 minute opening statement to the Senate EPW Committee for Wednesday’s (March 21) global warming hearing scheduled for 2:30 pm ET.
(See "FULL COMMITTEE: Vice President Al Gore’s Perspective on Global Warming" )

The GOP minority on the EPW committee agreed to the 30 minute opening statement.

But then Gore demanded a waiver of the EPW committee’s 48 hour rule that requires all witnesses before EPW to submit their testimony in advance. The GOP minority on the EPW committee then agreed to waive the 48 hour rule in favor of allowing Gore to submit his testimony 24 hours before the hearing.

But in a breaking news development on Capitol Hill — the former Vice President has violated the new 24 hour deadline extension by failing to submit his testimony – even with the new time extension granted to Gore.

As of 8pm ET Tuesday evening, the testimony still has not been received by EPW, a clear violation of committee rules.

The word on Capitol Hill says not to expect Gore’s testimony to the Senate EPW committee until Wednesday (March 21) — the day of the hearing.

It appears that Gore does not believe the same rules apply to him that apply to every other Senate EPW witness.

The question looms on Capitol Hill: Is Gore delaying the submission of his testimony until the very last moment because he fears it will give members of the EPW committee time to scrutinize it for accuracy?

Stay tuned…

Environmental & Public Works Committee

So he doesn’t need to follow the rules, just like he came buy "Carbon Offsets" ( to the company he founded by the way) and can get away with polluting the air. The Goracle of the New Church of Mannearpig is above all that.  He is the prophet of doom and gloom

More on the Hypocracy front and AlGore

March 20, 2007 Leave a comment

AlGore is a walking example of hypocracy at its worst.  He makes movies and books chastizing the normal folks and continues to pollute more that nay of us could do in years.  In yesterday’s Opinion Journal, John Fund has a great editorial about the hypocracy and over hyping of AlGore.

Whose Ox Is Gored?
The media discover the former vice president’s environmental exaggerations and hypocrisy.

Monday, March 19, 2007 12:01 a.m. EDT

The media are finally catching up with Al Gore. Criticism of his anti-global-warming franchise and his personal environmental record has gone beyond ankle-biting bloggers. It’s now coming from the New York Times and the Nashville Tennessean, his hometown paper that put his birth, as a senator’s son, on its front page back in 1948, and where a young Al Gore Jr. worked for five years as a journalist.

Last Tuesday, the Times reported that several eminent scientists "argue that some of Mr. Gore’s central points [on global warming] are exaggerated and erroneous." The Tenessean reported yesterday that Mr. Gore received $570,000 in royalties from the owners of zinc mines who held mineral leases on his farm. The mines, which closed in 2003 but are scheduled to reopen under a new operator later this year, "emitted thousands of pounds of toxic substances and several times, the water discharged from the mines into nearby rivers had levels of toxins above what was legal."

All of this comes in the wake of the enormous publicity Mr. Gore received after his documentary "An Inconvenient Truth" won an Oscar. The film features Mr. Gore reprising his famous sighing and lamenting how the average American’s energy use is greedily off the charts. At the film’s end viewers are asked, "Are you ready to change the way you live?"

The Nashville-based Tennessee Center for Policy Research was skeptical that Mr. Gore had been "walking the walk" on the environment. It obtained public records showing that for years Mr. Gore has burned through more electricity at his Nashville home each month than the average American family uses in a year–and his consumption was increasing. The heated Gore pool house alone ran up more than $500 in natural-gas bills every month.

Mr. Gore’s office responded by claiming that the Gores "purchase offsets for their carbon emissions to bring their carbon footprint down to zero." But CNSNews.com reports that Mr. Gore doesn’t purchase carbon offsets with his own resources, and that they are meaningless in terms of global warming.

The offset purchases are actually made for him by Generation Investment Management, a London-based investment firm that Mr. Gore co-founded, and which provides carbon offsets as a fringe benefit to all 23 of its employees, ensuring that they require no real sacrifice on the part of Mr. Gore or his family. Indeed, their impact is also highly limited. The Carbon Neutral Co.–one of the two vendors that sell offsets to Mr. Gore’s company, says that offset purchases "will be unable to reduce greenhouse gas emissions . . . in the short term."

The New York Times last week interviewed many scientists who say they are alarmed "at what they call [Mr. Gore’s] alarmism on global warming." In a front-page piece in its science section, the Times headline read "From a Rapt Audience, a Call to Cool the Hype."

The Times quoted Don Easterbrook, an emeritus professor of geology at Western Washington University, as telling hundreds of experts at the annual meeting of the Geological Society of America that "I don’t want to pick on Al Gore. But there are a lot of inaccuracies in the statements we are seeing, and we have to temper that with real data." Mr. Easterbrook made clear he has never been paid by any energy corporations and isn’t a Republican. Even James Hansen, a scientist who began issuing warning cries about global warming in the 1980s and is a top adviser to Mr. Gore, concedes that his work may hold "imperfections" and "technical flaws." Other flaws are more serious, such as Mr. Gore’s depiction of sea level rises of up to 20 feet, which would cause Florida and New York City to sink below the surface.

Sober scientists privately say such claims are exaggerated. They point to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, a United Nations body that released its fourth report on global warming last month. While it found humans were the main cause of recent global warming, the report also indicated it was a very slow-moving process. On sea levels, the U.N. panel reported its s best high-end estimate of the rise in sea levels by 2100 was three feet. The new high-end best estimate is less than half the previous prediction, which was still far below Mr. Gore’s 20 feet. Similarly, the new report shows that the panel’s 2001 report overestimated the human influence on climate change since the Industrial Revolution by at least one-third.

In an email message to the Times, Mr. Gore defended his work as fundamentally accurate. But it’s increasingly clear that far from the "consensus" on global warming we are told exists, scientists are having a broad and rich debate on many aspects of it. Nearly two decades after Mr. Gore first claimed that "we face an ecological crisis without any precedent in historic times," we don’t know if that is really true. Then there is the Gore zinc mine. Mr. Gore has personally earned $570,000 in zinc royalties from a mine his father bought in 1973 from Armand Hammer, the business executive famous for his close friendship with the Soviet Union and for pleading guilty to making illegal campaign contributions during Watergate. On the same day Al Gore Sr. bought the 88-acre parcel from Hammer for $160,000, he sold the land and subsurface mining rights to his then 25-year-old son for $140,000. The mineral rights were then leased back to Hammer’s Occidental Petroleum and the royalty payments put in the names of Al Gore Jr. and his wife, Tipper.

Gore spokeswoman Kalee Kreider claims the terms of the 30-year Occidental lease agreement gave the Gores "no legal recourse" to get out of it. She said the Gores never thought about selling the land and would not comment on whether they ever tried to void the lease. "There is a certain zone of privacy once people go into private life," Ms. Kreidler said. She said critics of the arrangement should realize it should be viewed in a "1973 context, not a 2007 context. . . . There was a different environmental sensibility about all sorts of things."

But what about a 1992 context? That is the year Mr. Gore published "Earth in the Balance," in which he wrote: "The lakes and rivers sustain us; they flow through the veins of the earth and into our own. But we must take care to let them flow back out as pure as they came, not poison and waste them without thought for the future." Mr. Gore wrote that at a time when he would be collecting zinc royalties for another 11 years.

The mines had a generally good environmental record, but they wouldn’t pass muster either with the standard Mr. Gore set in "Earth in the Balance" or with most of his environmentalist friends. In May 2000 the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation issued a "Notice of Violation" notifying the Pasminco mine its zinc levels in a nearby river exceeded standards established by the state and the federal Environmental Protection Agency. In 1996 the mine twice failed biomonitoring tests designed to protect water quality in the river for fish and wildlife. "The discharge of industrial wastewater from Outfall #001 [the Caney Fork effluent] contains toxic metals (copper and zinc)," the analysis stated. "The combined effect of these pollutants may be detrimental to fish and aquatic life."

The Gore mines were no small operations. In 2002, the year before they shut down, they ranked 22nd among all metal-mining operations in the U.S., with total toxic releases of 4.1 million pounds. A new mine operator, Strategic Resource Acquisition, is planning to reopen the mines later this year. The Tennessean reports that just last week, Mr. Gore wrote SRA asking it to work with a national environmental group as it makes its plans. He noted that under the previous operator, the mines had, according to the environmental website Scorecard, "pollution releases from the mine in 2002 [that] placed it among the ‘dirtiest/worst facilities’ in the U.S." Mr. Gore requested that SRA "engage with us in a process to ensure that the mine becomes a global example of environmental best practices." The Tennessean dryly notes that Mr. Gore wrote the letter the week after the paper posed a series of questions to him about his involvement with the zinc mines. Columnist Steven Milloy recalls talking with Mr. Gore in 2006 about the 1997 Kyoto Protocol he helped negotiate as vice president. "Did we think Kyoto would [reduce global warming] when we signed it? . . . Hell no!" said Mr. Gore, according to Mr. Milloy. The former vice president then explained that the real purpose of Kyoto was to demonstrate that international support could be mustered for action on environmental issues. Mr. Gore clearly believes that the world hasn’t acted with enough vigor in the decade since Kyoto, which may explain his growing use of the global-warming hype that concerns many mainstream scientists.

Mr. Gore has called the campaign to combat global warming a "moral imperative." But Mr. Gore faces another imperative: to square his sales pitches with the facts and his personal lifestyle to more align with what he advocates that others practice. "Are you ready to change the way you live?" asks Mr. Gore’s film. It’s time people ask Mr. Gore "Are you ready to change the way you live, as well as the way you lecture the rest of us?"

Americans must confront their axis of idiots and the media

J.D. Pendry is a retired Army Command Sergeant Major who writes for Random House.

Jimmy Carter , you’re the father of the Islamic Nazi movement. You threw the Shah under the bus, welcomed the Ayatollah home, and then lacked the spine to confront the terrorists when they took our embassy and our people hostage. You’re the runner-in-chief.

Bill Clinton , you played ring around the Lewinsky while the terrorists were at war with us. You got us into a fight with them in Somalia , and then you ran from it. Your weak-willed responses to the U.S.S. Cole and the First Trade Center Bombing and Our Embassy Bombings emboldened the killers. Each time you failed to respond adequately they grew bolder, until 9/11.

John Kerry , dishonesty is your most prominent attribute. You lied about American Soldiers in Vietnam. Your military service, like your life, is more fiction than fact. You’ve accused our Soldiers of terrorizing women and children in Iraq. You called Iraq the wrong war, wrong place, wrong time, the same words you used to describe Vietnam. You’re a fake. You want to run from Iraq and abandon the Iraqis to murderers just as you did the Vietnamese. Iraq, like Vietnam is another war that you were for, before you were against it.

John Murtha , you said our military was broken. You said we can’t win militarily in Iraq. You accused United States Marines of cold-blooded murder without proof. And said we should redeploy to Okinawa. Okinawa John? And the Democrats call you their military expert. Are you sure you didn’t suffer a traumatic brain injury while you were off building your war hero resume? You’re a sad, pitiable, corrupt and washed up politician. You’re not a Marine, sir. You wouldn’t amount to a good pimple on a real Marine’s ass. You’re a phony and a disgrace. Run away John .

Dick Durbin , you accused our Soldiers at Guantanamo of being Nazis, tenders of Soviet style gulags and as bad as the regime of Pol Pot, who murdered two million of his own people after your party abandoned South East Asia to the Communists. Now you want to abandon the Iraqis to the same fate. History was not a good teacher for you, was it? Lord help us!! See Dick run.

Ted Kennedy , for days on end you held poster-sized pictures from Abu Grhaib in front of any available television camera. Al Jazeera quoted you saying that Iraqi’s torture chambers were open under new management. Did you see the news this week, Teddy ? The Islamic Nazis demonstrate real torture for you again. If you truly supported our troops, you’d show the world poster-sized pictures of that atrocity and demand the annihilation of it. Your legislation stripping support from the South Vietnamese led to a communist victory there. You’re a bloated drunken fool bent on repeating the same historical blunder that turned freedom-seeking people over to homicidal, genocidal maniacs. To paraphrase John Murtha, all while sitting on your wide, gin-soaked rear-end in Washington

Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Carl Levine, Barbara Boxer, Diane Feinstein, Russ Feingold, Hillary Clinton , Pat Leahy , Chuck Schumer, et al ad nauseam. Every time you stand in front of television cameras and broadcast to the Islamic Nazis that we went to war because our President lied, that the war is wrong and our Soldiers are torturers, that we should leave Iraq , you give the Islamic butchers – the same ones that tortured and mutilated American Soldiers – cause to think that we’ll run away again, and all they have to do is hang on a little longer.

American news media, the New York Times particularly : Each time you publish stories about national defense secrets and our intelligence gathering methods, you become one United, with the sub-human pieces of camel dung that torture and mutilate the bodies of American Soldiers. You can’t strike up the courage to publish cartoons, but you can help Al Qaeda destroy my country. Actually, you are more dangerous to us than Al Qaeda is. Think about that each time you face Mecca to admire your Pulitzer

You are America’s “AXIS OF IDIOTS”.  Your Collective Stupidity will destroy us. Self-serving politics and terrorist abetting news scoops are more important to you than our national security or the lives of innocent civilians and Soldiers. It bothers you that defending ourselves gets in the way of your elitist sport of politics and your ignorant editorializing. There is as much blood on your hands as is on the hands of murdering terrorists. Don’t ever doubt that. Your frolics will only serve to extend this war as they extended Vietnam. If you want our Soldiers home, as you claim, knock off the crap and try supporting your country ahead of supporting your silly political aims and aiding our enemies. Yes, I’m questioning your patriotism. Your loyalty ends with self. I’m also questioning why you’re stealing air that decent Americans could be breathing. You don’t deserve the protection of our men and women in uniform. You need to run away from this war, this country. Leave the war to the people who have the will to see it through and the country to people who are willing to defend it.

No, Mr. President , you don’t get off the hook, either . Our country has two enemies: Those who want to destroy us from the outside and those who attempt it from within. Your Soldiers are dealing with the outside force.  It’s your obligation to support them by confronting the AXIS OF IDIOTS. America must hear it from you that these Self-centered people are harming our country, abetting the enemy and endangering our safety. Well up a little anger, please, and channel it toward the appropriate target. You must prosecute those who leak national security secrets to the media. You must prosecute those in the media who knowingly publish those secrets. Our Soldiers need you to confront the enemy that they cannot. They need you to do it now.

AMEN

We got to get Manbearpig.

March 1, 2007 Leave a comment

From now on I will be calling the Global Warming scare, Manbearpig, after the funny South Park episode I saw last night.   I did not see it when it originally was aired.  It was one of the best South Park’s I have seen in  a while.  It is a total spoof of AlGore’s spouting off obout Global Warming.  I am serial.

Now on with today’s manbearpig article of the day.  AlGore was at a gathering of national media ethicists at MTSU.  He goes on to say that all scientists believe in Manbearpig, and that the MSM has not been going along with him and his Gorebots.  He told them about the consensus of scientists that believe that Manbearpig is truly alive and is out to kill everyone.  But the MSM is not telling the public about Manbearpig.  But that is nonsense.  the MSM is all aboard with Algore  in killing Manbearpig.  Just read some of the comments at the end.  They are truly priceless.

Gore says media miss climate Manbearpig message

Journalists have leaned toward balance at expense of consensus data, he says

MURFREESBORO — After being the red-carpet darling of the Academy Awards, it was back to reality Tuesday for Al Gore, who resumed his usual role of history-spouting wonk as he addressed a gathering of national media ethicists at MTSU.

Gore was the star of An Inconvenient Truth, which won best documentary feature at Sunday night’s Oscars. The film showed the slide show presentation the former vice president has given countless times across the nation.

Back in Tennessee on Tuesday, Gore told a crowd of about 50 people at the U.S. Media Ethics Summit II that the presentation’s single most provocative slide was one that contrasts results of two long-term studies. A 10-year University of California study found that essentially zero percent of peer-reviewed scientific journal articles disagreed that global warming  Manbearpig exists, whereas, another study found that 53 percent of mainstream newspaper articles disagreed the global warming Manbearpig premise.

He noted that recently the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change released its fourth unanimous report calling on world leaders to take action on global warming Manbearpig.

"I believe that is one of the principal reasons why political leaders around the world have not yet taken action," Gore said. "There are many reasons, but one of the principal reasons in my view is more than half of the mainstream media have rejected the scientific consensus implicitly — and I say ‘rejected,’ perhaps it’s the wrong word. They have failed to report that it is the consensus and instead have chosen … balance as bias.

"I don’t think that any of the editors or reporters responsible for one of these stories saying, ‘It may be real, it may not be real,’ is unethical. But I think they made the wrong choice, and I think the consequences are severe.

"I think if it is important to look at the pressures that made it more likely than not that mainstream journalists in the United States would convey a wholly inaccurate conclusion about the most important moral, ethical, spiritual and political issue humankind has ever faced."

Gore would not answer any questions from the media after the event.

Repent, Sinners!

Earn Eco-Salvation the Quick and Easy Iowahawk Way

Are you concerned that your profligate personal lifestyle is harming the environment? Losing sleep over the long-term ecological damage resulting from those greenhouse gases constantly emitted by your family, your cars, your pets, and your shrubbery? Do you want to become carbon-neutral, but just don’t know how?

Well rejoice, sinner! Carbon atonement is no longer the exclusive preserve of the Malibu set — with the Iowahawk EcoPals Network! This unique new system lets you, the average Joe planet rapist, cleanse your tortured psyche of the stain of enviro-guilt for as little as $9.95 per year! If enough of you follow this simple three step program, we can save the world for our children — who will soon be frolicking with healthy polar bears atop Earth’s reforested glaciers. Act now before it’s too late!

STEP 1: Catalog Your Sins

Your first step on the road to salvation is to take a frank inventory of your eco-transgressions. When answering the following questions, remember to be honest. We are all sinners in the eyes of Gaia, and it is important not to incur her wrath by fibbing.

1. Did your home consume less than 220,000 Kilowatt hours in 2006?

2. Was your combined residential energy bill less than $30,000 in 2006?

3. When your are traveling the three blocks from your hotel to the Palm d’Or Ceremony at Cannes, do you and your entourage use less than five SUVs?

4. When you travel to Berkeley to lecture on greenhouse gases, do you balance your multiple-limousine motorcade with at least one Prius

5. In the previous year, did you travel less than 1 million miles on private and commercial jets?

6. In the previous five years have you, and members your immediate family, successfully avoided arrest for speeding and/or driving high in a Cadillac?

If you answered "no" to any of these questions, don’t worry — you can still reach salvation. Simply keep track of the number of "no" answers and proceed to Step 2.

STEP 2: Calculate Carbon Credits

As we say in the environmental community, now it’s time to "pay the piper" for your carbon use. If you answered "yes" to ALL of the questions in Step 1, your fee is $9.95. For each "no" answer, add an additional $19.95, plus $4.95 carbon credit shipping and handling. Once you have calculated your total fee, send it to the Iowahawk EcoPals Network via the "Beer Fund" tip jar located on the left sidebar.

STEP 3: Spread the Holy Eco-Word

Hallellujah, brother/sister, you are officially saved! The holy spirit of PayPal has washed away your CO2 sins in the healing Polar glacial waters! You are born again in the sweet bathing flourescent light of carbon neutrality! Feel that spirit enter! The power of Mother Earth compels you! Hunga mwa blabla glooba flambla hoomcha doomcha gluppa!

Brothers and sisters, now that you have gotten yourself right with Gaia, it’s time for you to go out and spread the good news about eco-redemption through the Iowahawk EcoPals Network. Start a mission in your own neighborhood, whether it’s Brentwood, Bel Air, or the Hamptons. Hold an oldtime Earth Tent Revival on your front lawn. Let your neighbors and friends know that no matter how they’ve sinned against Earth in the past, salvation is but one $9.95 mouse click away. Ask me about my new multilevel conversion fee program.

To help you bring those eco-sinners around to righteousness, feel free to download these Iowahawk EcoPals bumperstickers and glue them to your SUV, boat, snowmobile, or Gulfstream G5. Now go and sin no more! But if you happen to backslide, remember to send in another $9.95.

The Goracle of the Global Warming Religion

February 27, 2007 Leave a comment

AlGore is the number one fingure in the New Church of Global Warming.  He said Global Warming was not a political issue, but a moral issue.   BS.  It is totally political.  It is all about killing the American businesses into submision.  Even one of the EU MP’s or whatever they call them over there said it was to get at the US Economy.  It is a way to get even with the American economy by doing nothing.  The EU economy is failing because it is stiffled by the socialists governments that run the EU countries.

But the Goracle of the new religion is using more energy in one month that a normal home uses in a year.  But the Goracle is buying useless CO2 offsets which amount to nothing in the long run.   So when the Goracle and his minions get ahold of policy, dor you think the average family will be able to buy these CO2 offsets????   No only rich elite fools like the Goracle and his Gorebots will be able to do that.

I am just sick and tired of all this BS about how we are causing Global Warming.  If humans have any effect on Climate it is only local and even that is miniscule.  It is the new religion of the Left.  They left Christianity for a secular religion of Global Warming.  And the MSM is just eating it up like they never had food before.

Global Warming is a scientific issue, one that shold be decided by scientists that know about climate.  Not the "experts" like Algore and his Gorebots.  There are some real scientists that think humans are part of Global Warming, but not all are and many new discoveries are shedding light on how the Earth Climate has changed over the years.  Many new discoveries in how the Sun effects Global Climate, also such things as Global warming on Mars and Venus, which neither have SUVs or humans to add to Global warming.

WTF???

February 20, 2007 Leave a comment

AlGore is going to get a Honarary degree in Clinatology, just because of his hyped up movie about Global Warming.  What a joke.  Eduation ion this country has been going downhill for a long time now, and o give a blowhard like AlGore a Honorary degree in Climatology is just ridiculous.  Has he got any kind of knowledge of what Climatology is???  I think not with his rantings on Global Warming.  If he would have at least looked into what the Climate of the Earth has been the past few thousands of years, he would see that we had just ome out of an Ice Age and have been warming ever since.  And pretty soon, the Earth will start to cool down and another Ice Age will come.  It is not rocket science, we had many Ice ages before and no SUVs or cows farting to warm the Earth and melt the ice.   Just another day at a Left Wing University.

Gore may get doctorate

The U is in the confidential stages of considering an honorary degree for Al Gore.
former Vice President Al Gore could pay a visit to the University in the near future to receive an honorary degree for his work in climatology.

University President Bob Bruininks spilled the beans at the February Board of Regents meeting, saying that "two of our colleges are working with Vice President Gore to provide, we hope, an honorary doctorate."

Gore has been in the news lately for his 2006 documentary, "An Inconvenient Truth," about global warming. University spokesperson Daniel Wolter said since Gore is an expert in the subject, several colleges at the University have expressed interest in inviting Gore to speak on campus.

"He’s in the news and is a legitimate expert on a pressing issue of global concern, climate change, so this level of interest is understandable," Wolter said. "However, no plans have been set and it’s unlikely that would occur this spring."

Gore spokesperson Kalee Kreider said she did not believe Gore has received information about an honorary doctorate from the University and wouldn’t comment further.

Wolter said the University is still interested in hosting Gore and will "continue to look into the matter."

One way to lure him to campus would be with an honorary doctorate, which he would likely receive in person.

The University gives out several honorary degrees each year in three categories: humane letters, laws and sciences. Candidates cannot be University employees and must be nominated by a current faculty or staff member or a University alumnus or alumna.

University Senate Administrator Vicky Courtney said the honorary degree process is supposed to be totally confidential. In fact, the announcement of an honorary doctorate is not usually made until after the candidate accepts, she said.

"If somebody turns us down, it’s an embarrassment to the University," Courtney said.

Courtney, who is in charge of coordinating honorary degrees, would not comment on the possibility of the Gore doctorate, but did say the "process is in the most absolute confidential stages."

Media relations employees at the College of Biological Sciences, the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences and the Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs said they were unaware of the honorary doctorate, although Wolter said faculty at the Humphrey Institute might be involved.

Some students at the University are in support of the doctorate for Gore, including University DFL President Shannon Mitchell.

The bipartisan work he did after he ran for office, she said, including his documentary, is deserving of the award.

"He’s a leader in an area we all need to be very concerned with," she said.

Ingrid Scantlebury, a first-year political science student, agrees with Gore’s work but doesn’t feel the University should award him a degree for it.

"It’s mainly a publicity thing," she said.

Scantlebury said if anyone else had made the same documentary, the University probably wouldn’t recognize him or her.

"People will pay more attention because of who he is."

The University has given 223 honorary degrees to date. Past recipients include Yanni, Charles Schultz, Sandra Day O’Connor and Hillary Clinton.
