Golf in Aruba

July 11, 2014 Leave a comment

Golfing in Aruba is nothing like playing here in St Louis or anywhere in the US. There is not way to describe or to show you really the winds that are on the course. The average winds are about 30 mph every day, and some stronger gusts. So the club selection is different than your regular golf shot.  I had to hit a 8 iron from 100 yards away, which usually goes 150 yards on some holes going into the wind. Going downwind, you have to select 2 clubs shorter sometimes.  It is an experience that is not like any golf course I have played here. I played there before, but that was when I was not as good of a golfer as I was now. And if you have any kind of a slice or a fade, the wind will push it way left or right.

Here are most of the holes, I missed a few, I thought I got them all.

The greens were something also.  Not the greatest, but this is a island golf course. And Aruba is basically a desert in the middle of the ocean. And it was very wind swept, so the putts were more about the wind than the contour of the green.

We also got the 4 nephews out on the course to play a few holes.  They had fun, I was driving one in my cart and Phil had another one. WE did not want them all together or all chaos may have heppened.

Here are some more pics from the golf course. You can kind of get a feel of how dry and windy it is

AH  ARUBA

Well, I did not want to come back from Aruba yesterday. Golf, Beach, Family, and Sun.

I need to go thru my pics and make an gallery soon.

I had so much fun and missed most of the political sheninigans while I was done there.   Probably a good thing  :)

I got to play the silly golf in the wind 4 times and finally figured it out on the last day, well at least a little bit.  I did not lose a golf ball the last round.

I did burn my shoulders pretty good though. I went snorkeling with my brother and nephews one day, and thought we would only be gone for a little, but was on the beach for most of the day without sunscreen on.  OUCH. Aruba’s sun is much more intense and I got burnt pretty bad on my shoulders, and had to get a swim shirt for the rest of the time I was there so I can protect my shoulders.

I will try to get a gallery and a longer post sometime soon.

ARGH I am back at home
