Adam Brickley's sites & blogs for Sarah Palin
In early 2007, an intern at Townhall.com began a website and associated blog promoting Sarah Palin -which have now become famous. Turns out that Adam and those he inspired to join him in promoting Palin finally grabbed McCain’s attention. Nobody in McCain’s circle had been against Sarah, but nobody was pushing for Sarah in far-off Alaska, either. Voila! No problemmo in this era of internet blogs, websites and YouTube.
This past Thursday in the hours before Obama’s acceptance speech, somebody named "Drew" who had never visited the blog before started leaking to Adam’s blog about who was NOT going to be the VP – and hinting that the regulars there were going to be very happy with McCain’s announcement of his pick on Friday. Just little bits were given at a time and then the mysterious Drew would be back with a little more inside info. The blog regulars didn’t know what to make of this "Drew" until what he told them started coming to pass. They were always about an hour or more ahead of what was being reported on TV,etc. At one time, they were thinking maybe he was Karl Rove. It all unfolded like a mystery novel, stirring lots of interest and was fun.
While staying up all night on Thursday, these intrepid folks (including some law students who kept chatising themselves for not doing their assigned readings) also figured out the Lear jet scenario – So the blog had the goods about the Lear Jets and Sarah as the nominee HOURS before MSNBC, CNN, ABC, Drudge, FOX, etc. [But FOX did come up with Palin way before the other news outlets.] Finally, on Friday morning "Drew" confessed that he was actually associated with McCain’s campaign, that McCain had been watching and reading their blogs and websites to find out more about Sarah and then to keep track of her activities!!! Sweet.
Adam is only 21 years old and has now been interviewed all over the place. These bloggers are getting real respect and some credit for bringing Palin to McCain’s attention. Adam inspired a lot of other folks to talk her up, write letters to anybody (newspapers, TV anchors, politicians)who might have influence, sign a petition, start another website or blog, make a video, etc. These are the people who show up on his blog and were all there Thursday night and Friday solving the puzzle with Drew’s clues. Actually, they started their virtual champagne celebrations before the leaks even started. I plowed through the more than 1,000 comments over Thursday and Friday and it reads like a great American story – even when you know how it’s going to turn out.

Here’s Adam being interviewed on FOX by Bill Hemmer:
Below is a YouTube put together by Students for America who are part of Adam ‘s on-line promotions. As governor, Sarah is the commander of the Alaska National Guard. In 2007 she visited with some of the Alaska soldiers in Kuwait and also in the hospital in Landstuhl, Germany. Her son in an active member of the US Army and will be going to Iraq in September.
Here’s another YouTube that was aimed at showing McCain what a great VP Sarah would be for him. Guess what?? It worked. Yeah!
I’m wondering how long Bobby Jindahl has been governor. And wonder why Obama supporters think being a former neighborhood organizer is more important than being a former mayor? She’s a sitting governor just as he is a sitting Senator (who began running for President a few months after taking office)
Fred Barnes really likes Sarah and had said on FOX that she was too far away to get noticed – he thought she should get herself to DC one way or the other. That’s where McCain met her – at a National Governors meeting in DC where she was the keynote speaker this past April. She started having labor pains, gave her speech and then flew back to Alaska where she had the child the next day. I’ll bet that impressed McCain; and, maybe that’s when he asked somebody to find out about her and started seeing the info online. Other than that trip to DC, the folks in DC were only exposed to the Alaska governor through Adam and his retinue on-line.
I’m wondering if McCain was faking when he said he never did e-mail or used a browser. If not, then he sure had somebody doing alot of it for him.

Minneapolis
Well, I have arrived and we had a few glitches in the wireless set up here. I got here at about midnight and had a cab driver that did not know where anything was at, so I had a nice tour of downtown Minneapolis. But I eventually found Centerfield. And I tried to set up the wireless, but was tired and had a few beers, so it was not working last night. But I got it up and running this morning.
Sarah Palin – Female Teddy Roosevelt??
Interesting response to Sarah Palin in the Times of London:
Sarah Palin: conservatives find the girl of their dreams
The Alaskan governor’s family life and political views press the right’s buttons
“We may be seeing the first woman president. As a Democrat, I am reeling,” said Camille Paglia, the cultural critic. “That was the best political speech I have ever seen delivered by an American woman politician. Palin is as tough as nails.”
With her beehive hairdo and retro specs, Palin, 44, has a “naughty librarian vibe”, according to Craig Ferguson, the Scottish comedian who stars on late-night US television. However, the selection of Palin, the governor of Alaska and a mother of five, as the first female Republican vice-presidential nominee is no joke for the Democrats.
Rush Limbaugh, the conservative radio chat show host, exulted, “We’re the ones with a babe on the ticket” — one, moreover, with a reputation as a tax-cutter and corruption buster in her job as the first woman governor of Alaska.
Palin’s selection on the eve of the Republican convention in St Paul, Minnesota, has set the stage for an epic battle for the votes of women, African-Americans, evangelical Christians and the young. The demographic wars that dominated the contest between Obama and Hillary Clinton are now set to be replicated in the national election.
Will America fall in love with Palin or will she fizzle, like Dan Quayle, the vice-president to George Bush Sr who could not spell “potatoe”? Can she help McCain to defeat Obama, a modern political phenomenon, who drew a record-shattering television audience of nearly 40m — more than the Olympics opening ceremony in Beijing — to watch his convention speech?
“Good Lord, we had barely 12 hours of Democrat optimism,” said Paglia. “It was a stunningly timed piece of PR by the Republicans.”
Whether Palin’s selection is more than a political stunt depends on how she handles the electoral pressure cooker. With the election in November, there is no time for on-the-job training. Karl Rove, Bush’s former aide, offered a guarded welcome to the “gun-packing, hockey-playing” governor, sayhing: “We’ll get a taste in the next five days of how well she does in the 62 days that follow.”
After Obama’s acceptance speech was wiped from the front pages, even he was forced to acknowledge that she “seems like a compelling person . . . with a terrific personal story”. Republicans are hailing their potential new vice-president as the all-American girl of their dreams.
Palin is gunning for the 18m women who voted for Hillary Clinton — a third of whom have not made up their mind to back Obama, according to the latest polls. McCain specifically deployed the language of feminism and civil rights when announcing her candidacy. “She stands up for what’s right and she doesn’t let anyone tell her to sit down,” he said.
Palin’s parents learnt that she had been selected by McCain while they were heading for a remote camp in Alaska to hunt caribou. “I was speechless,” her father said. The skin of a grizzly bear that he shot drapes the sofa in her office.
The more Republicans examined Palin’s record, the more they liked it, although some are fearful of buyer’s remorse. She was born in the conservative heartland of Idaho before moving to Alaska as a baby. At school she was nicknamed Sarah Barracuda on the basketball court because she was so competitive and she led the prayers before each game.
She was a “hockey mom” who cut her teeth at the parent-teacher association before becoming mayor of Wasilla, a suburb of Anchorage with a population under 7,000. In 2006 she beat the corrupt male establishment in Alaska to win the governorship. She opposes same-sex marriage, but one of her first acts in office was to veto a bill blocking health benefits for gay lovers of public employees.
She hunts, ice-fishes and is a crack shot who knows how to fire an M16 rifle. “I was raised in a family where gender was not going to be an issue,” she said. “The girls did what the boys did. Apparently in Alaska that’s quite commonplace.” No softy, she sued to stop the federal government making polar bears an endangered species and favours drilling for oil in the Arctic wildlife refuge. However, she also levied a windfall tax on oil companies.
Palin was glamorous enough to have entered beauty contests to earn money for college. She was crowned Miss Wasilla in her home town and was runner-up in the 1984 Miss Alaska contest. “They made us line up in bathing suits and turn our backs so the male judges could look at our butts. I couldn’t believe it,” she told Vogue, more amused than outraged.
Counterbalancing McCain’s reputation as a political dinosaur, Palin smoked pot when it was legal in Alaska, admitting, “I can’t claim a Bill Clinton and say I never inhaled”, and her children, Track, 19, Bristol, 17, Willow, 13, Piper, 7, and Trig, four months, have hippie-sounding names. Track, who joined the US infantry in September last year, is about to be deployed to Iraq. “It has really opened my eyes to international events and how war impacts everyday Americans like us,” she said.
On stage in Ohio, the Palin family looked every bit as photogenic as the Obamas on their big night in Denver. Todd, her rugged husband, is part Yupik Eskimo and is four-time champion of the 2,000-mile Iron Dog snowmobile race. If that is not macho enough, he is a member of the steelworkers’ union and a seasonal oil production operator for BP, from which he earned $93,000 last year. He also helps to run the family’s commercial fishing business. They eloped in 1988 to avoid the cost of a wedding. “We had a bad fishing year so we didn’t have any money,” he said.
Like his wife, he is able to swap the traditional roles. “My husband loves being a dad as much as I love being a mom,” Palin said. “I’ve got great help there.”
She needs it. They “wanted enough kids for a basketball team”, she once said, but Trig was born this year with Down’s syndrome. Palin knew there were complications while she was pregnant but never considered an abortion. When he was born, she said, “I’m looking at him right now and I see perfection. Yeah, he has an extra chromosome. I keep thinking: in our world, what is normal and what is perfect?” Undaunted, she held a meeting as governor three days after giving birth. “I just put down the BlackBerrys and pick up the breast pump,” she said of her life as a working mother.
Left-wing websites such as the Daily Kos are leading the chorus of disapproval for now. “Having had two children at home at the age of four months, I know how much help they need even without unfortunate medical conditions,” said one tut-tutter.
Republican women, however, are delighted by Palin’s example. Kellyanne Conway, 41, a Republican pollster and mother of three, said, “I really feel mother knows best without the peanut gallery giving unsolicited advice. She strongly conveys to women today that you don’t have to choose between a successful career and motherhood. You do have to make sacrifices, but you can have it all.”
Evangelical Christians could turn out in droves for Palin, a member of Feminists for Life who opposes abortion even in cases of rape or incest, if she maintains her promise.
Deborah Fikes, a board member of the National Association of Evangelicals, said: “I would just trust that the child is not neglected in any way. There are millions of women who work. Why is it that the father cannot provide the same standard of care? There has been an evolving view of working women even in conservative Christian circles.”
Fikes said Palin was an inspiring choice: “I didn’t think the Republicans would pick a female candidate for another decade, but John McCain is not a typical conservative leader.”
Other conservative women have pointed out that Palin was a much more effective counterweight to the super-competent and glamorous Michelle Obama than Cindy McCain, wife of the Republican candidate.
Cindy, a beer industry heiress who bought the seven homes that McCain cannot remember and once said the only way to travel around her home state of Arizona was by private plane, was under fire last week from her own half-sister. She said she was voting for Obama after Cindy had repeatedly claimed to be an “only child” and never expressed regret that her father had ignored her half-sister in his will.
In fact, even though the Clinton aides could barely conceal their satisfaction when she was chosen, the woman who Palin upstages most of all is Hillary. If Obama wins the election, Hillary will have to wait until 2016 to stand again. And if he loses, Palin will be first in line to become America’s first woman president.
Todd Palin – the First Dude of Alaska
Amazing husband of Sarah Palin – Todd Palin, the First Dude of Alaska, her highschool sweetheart, the person she says she still admires most in the world. She couldn’t do what does without him. What a guy!

Todd Palin unique among nation’s 5 first husbands
THE MAN: He’s worked the oil patch, won the Iron Dog and takes care of the kids.

It was mid-February and Todd Palin, Alaska’s newest first gentleman, was speeding across 2,000 miles of ice and snowy tundra en route to victory in the world’s most grueling snowmobile race.
That same week, his wife, Gov. Sarah Palin, was in Juneau requesting more money for the state budget and assuring legislators they’d soon see her plan for a natural gas pipeline that could one day be the most expensive construction project in North America. Then she flew to Fairbanks to wave her exhausted husband across the finish line.
It’s not just his title as the state’s reigning snowmobile co-champion that sets 42-year-old Todd Palin apart from the nation’s other first spouses. And it’s not that he’s one of just five who are men.
White-collar jobs in law, education or health care are typical among the current crop of first spouses, but Palin spent nearly 20 years as a blue-collar employee in the oil fields of the North Slope. And every summer he heads west to his birthplace in Dillingham to work the Bristol Bay commercial salmon fishery from his property on the Nushagak River.
A lifetime of manual labor in the state’s two largest and most physically demanding industries is helping Palin carve out his role as Alaska’s first spouse, or "first dude," a nickname he has in common with the Kansas governor’s husband, Gary Sebelius.
Like other first spouses around the country, Palin has been asked to champion an array of causes or institutions since his wife took office in December.
His favorite is steering young Alaskans toward stable jobs in the oil and gas industry. It’s a singular choice among his counterparts, whose pet issues include schools, public health, domestic violence, poverty or the arts.
BP-TRAINED
"For those of us who learn by touching and tearing stuff apart and for those who don’t have the financial background to go to college, just being a product of that on-the-job training is really important," Palin said one morning over pastries at an Anchorage coffee shop, before meeting with trainers at several companies and trade groups in Anchorage and Wasilla.
Palin, who took college courses, but does not have a degree, said he is grateful for the training he received from the multinational oil company BP starting in 1989.
Until recently, he earned hourly wages as a production operator in a BP-run facility that separates oil from gas and water. Palin was making between $100,000 and $120,000 a year before he went on leave in December to make more time for his family and avoid potential conflicts of interest. London-based BP is heavily involved in the gas pipeline negotiations with his wife’s administration.
Palin’s advocacy dovetails neatly with his wife’s No. 1 priority: forging a construction contract with private companies to transport natural gas from the North Slope to the Lower 48. The export of natural gas would presumably replace revenue from the state’s dwindling oil reserves, which funded 80 percent of the state budget last year.
"He will be passing information on to me and participating in getting work force development programs up and running in Alaska," Sarah Palin said. "That’s in addition to doing all the things that make Todd Todd. There are lots of things I would never want to take away from him, but this is something he’s enthused about."
Those things include taking care of their four kids and escaping into the Alaska wilderness to fish commercially, hunt or train for the Tesoro Iron Dog, billed as the longest, toughest snowmobile race in the world. The Palins have a son, Track, 18, and three daughters, Bristol, 16, Willow, 12, and Piper, 6.
A PALIN PASSION
Palin is so passionate about the Iron Dog that he made sure to squeeze in snowmobile runs between official events this winter, such as statewide inaugural galas, and moving the family to the governor’s mansion in Juneau. The capital is 600 miles southeast of the family home in Wasilla.
"I’ve got a really good group of buddies and we train either early in the morning or late at night so we can still make things like the kids’ basketball games and try not to impact the family life," Palin said.
In past years, Palin has trained about 3,000 miles before the race to accustom his body to hours of constant jolting and to detect any mechanical kinks in his vehicle. This winter, Palin covered more than 2,500 miles on the frozen swamps and rivers around Wasilla.
Scott Davis, his race partner of five years, said Palin has the willpower to stay levelheaded while racing at high speeds over terrain that can range from glare ice to bare ground to flooded coastlines strewn with driftwood. The Iron Dog traces the Iditarod trail from Wasilla to Nome, plus an additional leg to Fairbanks.
"I have to trust my life in his hands, and I do, because he can still think when he’s dehydrated and tired," said Davis, a seven-time winner. "You know, I think this is the longest I’ve been partners with anybody. A lot of teams certainly don’t have fun when they’re doing it and I like to think Todd and I do."
This year’s win is Palin’s fourth since he started running the Iron Dog in 1993.
Palin was born in the western Alaska town of Dillingham to Jim Palin and Blanche Kallstrom, who is a quarter Yu’pik Eskimo. He met Sarah Heath at a high school basketball game and they eloped in 1988, six years after graduation, to avoid having to pay for a wedding.
"We had a bad fishing year that year, so we didn’t have any money," Todd Palin said. "So we decided to spend 35 bucks and go down to the courthouse."
At home, Palin takes care of the cooking, the bills and other domestic paperwork, in addition to driving the kids to extracurricular activities like basketball and soccer, according to his wife. He divides much of his time between Wasilla, where Track is recovering from shoulder surgery, and the capital in Juneau, where the Palin daughters are in school.
"He can go on just an hour or two of sleep a night. He says, ‘I can sleep when I die,’ " said Sarah Palin. "There is no way I could have done this job without his tremendous contributions to the home life. He’s able to keep it organized, like a well-oiled machine."
